The quality of the photos you submit have a direct
bearing on the quality of your portrait and consequently upon the
cost. You will be asked to submit between three and six .jpeg
files of the pet you are having a portrait made of. These photos
should ideally be: 1. medium to high
resolution; 2. In focus without any blurring;
3. Include the entire pet in at least one of
the photos. If
you are able to meet all of those criteria with your photo submissions,
then you will have a wide range of rates to choose from.
1. Medium to high resolution.
This means that the photo was taken with your
digital camera on the high or medium resolution setting. Alternately, you may
have taken the photo with a SLR camera and then scanned the print
using a high resolution scanner. This does not mean that you
have taken an email quality photo and then enlarged the DPI up to 180
or 300 using your photo editing program. I can tell if you have
done this and it will make no difference, other than make me cranky
that such a huge file was sent through my slow dial-up. The photo
is still an email quality photo that will need extensive work on my
part. The size of the photo should be at least 5 X 4 inches with
the pet as the most prominent feature.
2. In sharp focus without any blurring.
I cannot use blurred or out of focus photos.
Some softly focused photos may be usable but I would have to see them
first. The ideal photo to use for your portrait is one in which
your pet's fur patterns are sharp and clearly visible.
3. Include the entire pet in at least one of
the photos.
For the first pricing option, I will need a full
body shot of your pet in a pose that is appropriate to make the
portrait with. I prefer a full body shot for all of the pricing
options, but can work with bits and pieces from the collected photos if
necessary. I should be able to have a clear, focused view of the
face. Color correction and blown out eyes are not a
problem. Those are easily fixed as long as the details are in
place. For instance, black pets are sometimes hard to
photograph...make sure their faces show up in the photo and don't send
a photo of them with a light colored pet in the shot with them.
Other tips for taking good pet photos include getting on
the pet's level. Take photos that show your pet's expressiveness
or with their favorite toys. Use the flash to capture your pet in
action, freezing the moment.
Another type of photo that I cannot use are email
thumbnails. Please do not send them unless you have a high to
medium resolution photo of the same shot to send me.
If all you have are email quality shots, this does not
mean that I can't help you. It just means that you will be
limited to the portraits in the 100 to 150 dollar range.
Before committing to your portrait, you are welcome to email me with questions or to send me one photo. Please only send one. I'm on very slow dial-up and a large number of photos can tie my computer up for a very long time. My email is:

The pricing is based on the level of
difficulty and time involved in each portrait. This will
largely have to do with the quality of the photos you submit. If
you have sharp, clear, expressive photos of your pet, the first two
options will suit you just fine unless you are looking for a completely
different pose. It's a fairly simple thing for me to color
correct or paint in eyes, but a very time consuming and exacting
process to render an entire coat of fur or to paint in missing body
parts.
Type 1 -
Simple
This is an 8 X 10 angel portrait of your pet on a simple background.
This requires photos that meet the specs listed above. I
can
usually have this type done in under two weeks.
50.00
Types 2
through 4 are 8 X 10 angel portraits of your pet on an original
background
Type 2 -
Complex
The Complex Portrait requires that your photos
meet
the specs listed above. It includes a rendering of your pet set
in an original fantasy background. You may request a theme such
as "beach", "mountains" , "forest" or "lakeside".
Golden
Waves is an example of a Complex Portrait. Click on the

Please allow four weeks for completion of a Complex
portrait.

Type 3 -
Complicated
Choose this option if your photos do not have
a pose that is appropriate for a portrait or if I will need to piece
together a portrait from multiple pictures to get a full view of your
pet. The original photo is used as a model
and your angel portrait is essentially painted on the computer. I
may combine more than one photo to make a new original image of your
pet.

Please allow six weeks for the completion of a
Complicated portrait.

Type 4 -
Deluxe Involved
If your original photos are low resolution and
if
the photos need extensive work such as complete re-rendering of
fur textures, piecing, or if I need to create new body parts for your
pet then you should choose this option. These are some of my most
beautiful work, but are very involved. Also in this category are
action poses in which I place your pet in motion.
Please allow six to eight weeks for completion of a
Deluxe portrait.

150.00
There is
a 40.00 dollar surcharge to add a second pet into the portrait.
I'm only doing up to two pets per portrait since any more than that
tends to be crowded in the 8 X 10 format. The same photo submission
criteria, time restraints and pricing apply to the addition of a second
pet.
